Yep, you can play as fast as you like – whatever...

But nobody else might enjoy it much.

We all seem to have an in-built metronome which keeps us playing at the pace we’re comfortable at.

Nothing really wrong with that,
except not all songs are written at a tempo that suits us.

So to retrain that internal metronome, and make us more useful when we play with other instruments, it’s really useful to be able to
a. vary b. ignore c. tap dancethe tempo.

It’ll probably take a while to play comfortably at all those speeds,
so don’t give up!

Playing along at different speeds really helps develop your skill level.
It’s a great way to make sure you can play what you want to play –
quicker and easier.
